Julia Maly was born in Austria and started playing the violin at the age of 7. After preparatory studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Prof. Geise she attended the Yehudi Menuhin School in Great Britain on full scholarship from 1996–2001 at Lord Menuhin’s personal request. Following her studies in London, Julia studied with Prof. Helmut Zehetmair at the Mozarteum University and completed her Bachelor degree with High Distinction. Julia has played numerous solo concerts in Europe with orchestras such as the Viennese Chamber Orchestra, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra and the Czech Chamber Orchestra under the baton of such prestigious musicians as Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Sandor Vegh, Ola Rudner and Dennis Russell Davies. She has taken part in many esteemed music festivals in Austria, Great Britain and Switzerland, a notably the Menuhin Festival Gstaad and the Gmundner Festwochen, during which she performed the Austrian premiere of Michael Nyman’s violin concerto with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz directed by Dennis Russell Davies. Julia is an avid chamber music player and has played in various trios, quartets and larger ensembles. Noteworthy performances include her first Wigmore Hall appearance with her string quartet at the age of 17, as well as later quartet tours with Markus Wolf – concertmaster of the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra. Julia has performed with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, Bruckner Orchestra Linz, Camerata Salzburg,the OENM (Austria’s leading ensemble for contemporary music), Wiener Kammerorchester, Max Brand Ensemble and Wiener Akademie. From 2009 to 2014 she lived in Adelaide, Australia, where she worked as a freelance musician with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Art Orchestra and the Amicus Strings and taught at renowned private schools.
