Symphony Orchestra of the Vienna Volksoper
The Orchestra was founded in 1978 with the object of giving concerts (semi-staging or symphonic performances) apart from its activities as an Opera orchestra. National and international successes very quickly followed: In 1978 the first concerts with Franco Bonisolli and Elizabeth Leonskaja were held, in 1979 a concert tour to Hong Kong and Singapore was the start of the orchestra's international concert activity.
Asia has become the most travelled continent for the orchestra. For example: 1988, 1990, 1992 concert tours to Japan, Taiwan, Korea, since 1994-2002 annual Japan Tours. 1999 the Orchestra of the was invited to the 100th Toyota Classic Tour with concerts in seven Asian countries. 2001 tours to Shanghai, Macao were staged.
In the years to follow the orchestra will continue to perform the traditional "New Year's Concerts" at the Suntory Hall in Tokyo.
